These days it seems like there are so many organizations out there doing relief work, random acts of kindness, and many humanitarian things, but what a wonderful world we live in where everywhere you look there is something being done to promote kindness in this society we live in!
Some of you may be thinking, “Oh great! Another non-profit starting that I will be asked to donate too” or “Cool, but your non-profit sounds like this other non-profit I already volunteer with.” Let me clear this up for you. Nerd’s Abroad is different than anything you have experienced before with non-profits and here’s why.
We are fueled by passion and dedication of our team to enable people around the world to be able to help themselves. We have a strong belief in not only providing immediate, relief work, but providing people around the world with the tools they need to sustain their well-being. One way we can do that is through education. Nerd’s Abroad is creating an educational certificate that teaches individuals all about technical support and TechBox curriculum to then pass along to the community they are serving.
We also believe in the power of meaningful relationships. It isn’t enough to do the work with someone one time. It’s that continuous building of that relationship that provides sustainability in people’s lives around the world. The relationships we build on started with a common theme: either the love for Jesus or the love for geeking out over technology. Both of which are frequent conversation starters with Nerd’s Abroad Geek and founder, Stephen Hodges. Without meaningful relationships, we have nothing. All it takes is one common interest to spark a relationship with someone that can be shared for a lifetime.
Nerd’s Abroad may be focused on providing non-profits around the world with technology, but we also desire to help those in need in our own community. The part I am most excited about with Nerd’s Abroad is the young minds we can help inspire by allowing them to be trained to teach technology to others around the world. Whether these young minds are youth stuck in a transitional phase of their life or youth who just want to build on their resume, there is a place for them with Nerd’s Abroad. We want to feed into their confidence and build them up to be full blown computer geeks ready to enter the workforce.
Nerd’s Abroad is a unique organization through the passion and dedication of its leaders, the impact it has in many different individual lives, and because there are creative ways to get involved with Nerd’s Abroad and you don’t even have to be a geek to do it.
